Program: MA in Human Rights and Social Justice

Position Overview: The MA in Human Rights and Social Justice (HRSJ) Program at the American University of Armenia (AUA) (https://hrsj.aua.am) invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Human Rights and Social Justice, starting in July 2026. This position is open at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor. Faculty members at AUA are expected to teach three courses per semester, engage in program development and university service, and pursue an active research agenda. We are interested in a scholar whose research is interdisciplinary in nature and that takes a social science perspective in addressing human rights. Particularly, we are interested in expertise in one or more of the following areas: Social justice movements and collective action; social science and identity; violence prevention, conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and transitional justice; displacement, migration, and refugee rights; inequality and access to rights across race, gender, class, and geography; rights-based approaches to development, health, and education, as well as freedom of speech and the prevention of hate speech.

The ideal candidate will possess a PhD and a robust background in teaching and research within the field of Human Rights and Social Justice.
Applicants at the assistant professor level should have some teaching experience and a record of peer-reviewed publications. Candidates applying for associate or full professor ranks should demonstrate substantial teaching experience alongside an extensive portfolio of peer-reviewed work, commensurate with rank and experience.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching non-native English speakers and/or conducting academic work in an international context.
Compensation: Compensation is commensurate with the university-wide pay scale and will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
