Position Overview: The Akian College of Science and Engineering (ACSE) at the American University of Armenia invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Applied Mathematics at the rank of Assistant Professor, starting in July 2026. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching and curriculum development in mathematics and quantitative methods across ACSE programs, including Computer Science, Data Science, and Engineering-related disciplines, and will maintain an active research agenda in applied mathematics and related fields. Faculty members at AUA are expected to teach three courses per semester, engage in program development and university service, and pursue high-quality, peer-reviewed research.

The successful candidate will:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate mathematics and applied mathematics courses (such as calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, probability and statistics, numerical analysis, optimization, and mathematical modeling), as well as mathematically intensive courses that support ACSE programs
- Develop new courses and contribute to curricular and programmatic innovations in applied mathematics and quantitative methods across ACSE
- Engage in an active research program in applied mathematics and related fields (e.g., mathematical modeling, statistics, machine learning, data-driven modeling, dynamical systems, optimization) and publish in reputable peer-reviewed journals and conferences
- Supervise student projects and theses, mentor students in their academic and research pursuits, and support undergraduate and graduate research activities
- Participate in program, college, and university service, including committee work, outreach, and continuous quality improvement
- Contribute to developing collaborations with industry, research institutes, and international partners
- ​Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Chair(s) and/or the Dean of ACSE
Qualifications:
- PhD in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment
- Demonstrated research record (or strong potential) in applied mathematics and at least one of the following: mathematical modeling, statistics, machine learning, differential equations, dynamical systems, numerical analysis, optimization, or related areas
- Documented ability to teach a range of core and advanced courses in mathematics (e.g., calculus sequence, linear algebra, differential equations, probability and statistics, numerical methods, optimization, dynamical systems, and modeling)
- Strong written and oral communication skills in English and demonstrated ability to teach in English
- Documented experience in supervision, including thesis supervision
Desirable qualifications:
- Experience in interdisciplinary collaborations with computer science, data science, engineering, or related fields
- Experience in collaboration with companies, public organizations, or research centers in applied mathematics and quantitative sciences
- Experience in applying for and/or participating in externally funded research projects
Compensation:
Compensation is commensurate with the university-wide pay scale and will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
