Program name: Waste Policy Armenia
Program background
Waste Policy Armenia is a 4-year program aimed at improving Armenia’s waste management sector capacity to implement more environmentally sound waste management practices through policy development, waste source separation, and sector capacity building. As part of the program’s capacity-building work, WPA supports improved occupational safety practices among waste handling operators, including collection, sorting, recycling, and related waste management activities.
Objective
To design and deliver practical occupational safety training for waste handling operators, with a focus on reducing workplace risks and improving safe practices in waste collection, sorting, recycling, and handling operations.
Scope of work and responsibilities
- Prepare a practical training module on occupational health and safety for waste handling operators, covering key risks such as sharp objects, hazardous materials, biological risks, manual handling, machinery/equipment safety, fire risks, traffic/vehicle-related risks, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Deliver training sessions for waste management operators, including collection crews, sorting/recycling workers, supervisors, and other relevant staff.
- Provide practical guidance on safe work procedures, correct PPE use, incident prevention, and basic emergency response.
- Adapt the training content to the needs of participants and the specific working conditions of waste collection, sorting, recycling, and related operations in Armenia.
- Collect participant feedback and provide a short summary of training results, including key observations and recommendations for follow-up.
- Travel to Armenian regions to deliver the training.
Deliverables
- Short training agenda and training materials
- Delivery of occupational safety training session(s)
- Short final training report with practical recommendations
Qualifications
- Proven experience in occupational health and safety training, preferably in waste management, industrial operations, municipal services, recycling, construction, logistics, or similar sectors.
- Good understanding of workplace safety risks related to manual handling, machinery, vehicles, PPE, fire prevention, and emergency response.
- Experience delivering practical trainings for workers and operational staff.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills.
- Fluency in Armenian is required.
