Project Background

The Organics Mobilized: Accelerating Social Transformation Towards Circular Bioeconomy project supports Armenia's transition toward sustainable organic waste and biomass management through integrated circular economy approaches. The project is implemented by the American University of Armenia (AUA) in partnership with UNDP Armenia, funded by the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) Food and Nutrition Challenge, a United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Initiative.

The project aims to reduce methane and other climate pollutant emissions from the organic waste sector by strengthening national and municipal capacities, improving source separation and valorization of organic waste, piloting decentralized circular bioeconomy solutions, promoting sustainable cold-chain technologies, and facilitating behavioral and institutional transformation through Living Labs and Learning Communities.

Objective

To lead the development and implementation of project communications and visibility activities, effectively communicate the project's objectives, progress, results, and impact to relevant stakeholders, and support the dissemination of knowledge and lessons learned through the project.

Scope of Work and Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the project’s communication and visibility plan in line with project objectives, defining key messages, target audiences, communication channels, activities, and timelines. 
• Monitor relevant communication trends and identify innovative approaches for communicating circular economy and environmental issues to different audiences.
• Coordinate the development of communication and outreach materials, including project briefs, factsheets, brochures, presentations, newsletters, social media content, website content, success stories and other visibility materials.
• Develop and maintain project communication materials in accordance with applicable AUA, UNDP, CCAC, UNOPS and donor visibility and branding requirements.
• Coordinate the collection of stories, data, photographs, and other communication materials from Living Labs, municipalities, Learning Communities, and other project activities, and disseminate relevant content through social media channels at the local, national, and international levels. 
• Coordinate with designers, photographers, videographers, translators, media professionals, and other external communication service providers as required.
• Maintain an organized archive of project communication materials, including photographs, videos, publications, media coverage, designs, and other visibility assets, in compliance with the AUA Acopian Center website and platforms.
• Perform other project-related communication and visibility duties assigned by the Project Manager.

Support from AUA

The Communication Expert will work under the supervision of the Project Manager and in close collaboration with the project implementation team, AUA communications team, UNDP Armenia, CCAC, UNEP, UNOPS, consultants, municipalities, implementing partners, and other relevant stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public relations, Marketing, Media or a related field. A master’s degree is an advantage.
• At least 2-3 years of relevant professional experience in communications, public relations, strategic communications, media, and visibility. 
• Demonstrated experience developing and implementing communication and visibility strategies or plans.
• Experience developing communication materials and knowledge products for development, environmental, climate or other public-interest programs is an advantage.
• Strong writing, editing, storytelling and content-development skills.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical or environmental topics in clear and accessible language for different audiences.
• Experience with digital communications, social media, websites, newsletters and other communication channels.
• Experience working with international organizations, development partners, NGOs, government institutions, academic institutions, or donor-funded projects is an advantage.
• Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple communication products and deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to ensure consistency and accuracy across communication materials.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and coordinate with internal and external communication professionals.
• Excellent written and spoken English and Armenian.
