The Information Security Officer reports to the Chief Operating Officer. Working in collaboration with IT specialists and stakeholders from across the University, the postholder will select, design, justify, implement and operate controls and management strategies to maintain and protect the confidentiality, integrity, availability, dependability and accountability of information and information systems with legislation, regulation and relevant standards.
He is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations of securing AUA’s various information systems. He is tasked with providing technical expertise in all areas of network, system, and application security. He leads AUA’s vulnerability management program, manages the annual cybersecurity assessments and penetration tests, and researches and reports on emerging threats
Responsibilities
- Develop and coordinate the ISO 27001 and ISO 27011 implementation plan.
- Proactively monitor the environment to detect and implement steps to mitigate cyber-attacks before they occur.
- Provides technical expertise regarding security-related concepts to operational teams within the Information Technology Department and the business.
- Review, investigate, and respond to real-time alerts within the environment.
- Review real-time and historical reports for security and/or compliance violations.
- Monitor online security-related resources for new and emerging cyber threats
- Conducts vulnerability assessments of firm systems and networks
- Define, operate and monitor a system for information security management including policies, standards, principles and controls including management practices and technical security measures.
- Perform risk assessments, business impact assessments and manage information security risks in accordance with the University’s risk management framework
- Manage information security and related projects and initiatives; organise and lead meetings, working groups, virtual teams, forums and workshops on information security and related subject areas.
Requirements
Essential:
- Formal education to degree level in cyber-security, computing or equivalent professional qualifications or experience.
- Previous experience in a role that includes a large element of information security as developer, architect, auditor, security officer, advisor or similar.
- Good underlying technical knowledge and experience in computing, data communications and related technologies
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of information risk management and information assurance.
- Good communication skills, a good writer and confident presenter with experience in raising, discussing and resolving information security risks with technical and non-technical customers.
Desirable:
- Previous experience in a full-time information security role.
- A recognised professional information security qualification or certification such as ISO27001, Data Security Standard or similar.
- Master’s Degree or similar postgraduate qualification in Information or Cyber Security or Information Assurance.
- Cyber Essentials or similar information security standard.
