Job description   

The current vacancy arises from the 5-year Horizon Europe ERA Chair project ETICA (Center for Ethics in Public Affairs), at the American University of Armenia.   The aim of the Center, the first of its kind in the country and the region, is to provide a comprehensive ecosystem of research, training, and public outreach on questions relevant to ethics in public life. The project is led by Professor Maria Baghramian who will act as the successful candidates’ mentor and PI. You can learn more about the project here. 

 The successful candidates are expected to work as a member of the ETICA research team, in particular collaborating and assisting with objectives of the training and capacity building pillar, under the direction of Dr Arshak Balayan.  They are expected to reside in Yerevan and be present at the project events and teaching sessions in the course of the academic year (approximately 10 months each year). The research and instructions are conducted through English only, but excellent Armenian is a requirement.  

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the Handbook in Applied Ethics in Armenian. The handbook is intended to become a resource in teaching and research about ethics in Armenia. 
• Contribute to the development of teaching resources in applied ethics for university students and professionals.
• Contribute to the development of content for short animated videos on applied ethics. 
• Deliver two courses per academic year in ethics and related areas at BA level.
• Contribute to the organization and the delivery of training sessions in ethics for professional groups.
• Participation in the monthly Research in Progress sessions as co-organiser and contributor. 
• Contribute to the organization of conferences and research workshops at AUA.
• Assist with the delivery of ETICA publications, including the ETICA Yearbook and the translation of books in ethics into Armenian. 
• Participate in the outreach activities of ETICA. 
• Participate in national and international conferences and workshops

Qualifications

Essential

• PhD degree in philosophy/ethics, completed by September 1, 2025.
• Fluent oral and written communication skills in Armenian and in English
• Teaching and research interests relevant to ETICA
• Commitment to research and publications in areas connected with the project. 

 Desirable

• Peer reviewed publications
• Experience in working with research projects and teams 
• Experience in organising conferences and research workshops
• Editorial skills 
• Relevant university level teaching experience. 
• Potential to contribute to the long-term development of the academic and research environment of ETICA and AUA.
