Program Background

The Organics Mobilized: Accelerating Social Transformation Towards Circular Bioeconomy project supports Armenia's transition toward sustainable organic waste and biomass management through integrated circular economy approaches. The project is implemented by the American University of Armenia (AUA) in partnership with UNDP Armenia under the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) Food and Nutrition Challenge.

The project aims to reduce methane and other climate pollutants emissions from the organic waste sector by strengthening national and municipal capacities, improving source separation and valorization of organic waste, piloting decentralized circular bioeconomy solutions, promoting sustainable cold-chain technologies, and facilitating behavioral and institutional transformation through Living Labs and Learning Communities.

Objective

To lead the overall management, coordination, and implementation of the Organics Mobilized project, ensuring effective delivery of project outputs and outcomes in accordance with the approved project document, workplan, budget, donor requirements, and AUA policies and procedures.

Scope of Work and Responsibilities

• Lead the overall planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of project activities to ensure timely delivery of project outputs and outcomes.
• Supervise and coordinate the work of project staff, consultants, and partner organizations, ensuring quality and timely completion of assigned tasks.
• Coordinate implementation across all project components, ensuring effective collaboration among consortium partners and technical teams.
• Serve as the primary focal point for engagement with national ministries, regional authorities, municipalities, development partners, academia, civil society organizations, and the private sector.
• Facilitate the work of project governance and coordination mechanisms, including steering and advisory bodies, technical working groups, and stakeholder consultations.
• Ensure effective coordination with the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), UNEP, UNOPS, and other relevant partners, serving as the primary project liaison.
• Oversee preparation of project workplans, budgets, procurement plans, technical reports, progress reports, and other project documentation in accordance with donor and AUA requirements.
• Ensure compliance with donor agreements, AUA policies and procedures, contractual obligations, financial and procurement requirements, and monitoring and reporting frameworks.
• Monitor project performance, identify implementation risks, recommend corrective actions, and support adaptive management to achieve project objectives.
• Oversee quality assurance of project outputs, including technical studies, policy recommendations, communication materials, and knowledge products.
• Promote integration of project results into national policies, regional strategies, and municipal systems to support long-term sustainability and replication.
• Foster partnerships, resource mobilization opportunities, and collaboration with relevant national and international initiatives to maximize project impact.
• Perform other project-related duties assigned by the Director of the Acopian Center for the Environment or designated supervisor.

Support from AUA

The Team Lead / Project Manager will work under the supervision of the Director of the Acopian Center for the Environment and in close collaboration with the project implementation team, UNDP Armenia, CCAC, UNEP, UNOPS, and relevant national stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Advanced university degree in Environmental Management, Waste Management, Environmental Engineering, Public Administration, Project Management, Natural Resources Management, Circular Economy, Sustainable Development, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in project management or coordination, preferably in environmental, climate, waste management, or circular economy programs.
• Demonstrated experience managing complex donor-funded projects involving multiple partners and stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of municipal waste management, organic waste management, circular economy, climate mitigation, or related fields.
• Experience working with government institutions, municipalities, international organizations, and development partners.
• Proven experience in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, team leadership, and performance management.
• Experience managing project budgets, procurement processes, monitoring systems, and donor reporting.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
• Excellent written and spoken English and Armenian.
